The incarceration of a loved one can be very overwhelming for both
children and caregivers. It can bring about big changes and transitions.
In simple everyday ways, caregivers can comfort a child and guide him or her
through these tough moments. It takes love and support to get
through kids anything that come their way. Here are some tools to help caregivers deal
with the changes a child is going through when a parent is incarcerated.
Ann Adalist-Estrin, Director of the National Resource Center on Children and Families, and others worked with Sesame Street to develop materials for its "Little Children, Big Challenges" series on the topic of incarcerated parents. The materials can be accessed online at the link below. This is a wonderful free resource. The tools are available in English (the default) and also in Spanish.
