I am often requested to post about domestic violence in which the alleged perpetrator is female rather than male. Today the Boston Globe posted a news story about Erica Wang. According to police reports referenced by the Globe, Todd English filed a formal complaint for assault in the Boston area. English asked law enforcement to charge his fiance with assault and criminal possession of a weapon - a men’s watch -
stemming from a September 15th fight with the celebrity chef. Wang was arrested and charged
yesterday with assault and criminal possession of a weapon. English called off the wedding in early October and asked law enforcement to charge her. Wang turned herself in to New York City police at 8 a.m., five days
after English filed an assault complaint against her.

I feel compelled to write this comment to help people including the police understand how a stronger man can be the victim of domestic violence. My ex-wife assaulted me several different times during our divorce. My ex-wife is not very strong so she was not much of a threat but she did draw blood when she hit me in the side of the head while I was on the phone and she left me mildly sore a few times. I hope she does not read this as she would take delight in the fact that she hurt me. She knew I would not retaliate because I was raised to never hit a woman. That and I knew I would be the one to go to jail if there was a fight. I did go to jail once when my ex-wife and her sister lied to police. I will think twice about calling the police in the future. I put myself in harms way because our daughter was to be married in our back yard and there was much to do to get prepared. I had moved out but the pressure to make my daughters wedding beautiful meant I needed to spend a lot of time in the proximity of my ex-wife.
