The New York Times reported on December 4, 2009 on concerns of home health care patients about possible cuts that may occur if the legislation passed by the House and also passed in the Senate.
Many elderly patients rely upon home health care - both supplies anxd visits by home health care nurses to keep them out of the hospital. Home health care nurses can review and monitor a patient's condition and medications. The proposed legislation would reduce Medicare spending on home health services, a lifeline for home bound Medicare beneficiaries, which keeps them out of hospitals and nursing homes.
Under the pending legislation, more than 30 million Americans would gain health coverage. The cost would be offset by new taxes and fees and by cutbacks in Medicare payments to health care providers.
