Ann Routt, Deputy Director of Legal Services of South Central Michigan in Ann Arbor has shared the following valuable information regarding services to help individuals facing foreclosure:
Legal Services of South Central Michigan (LSSCM), through its Michigan Poverty Law Program (MPLP), has launched the Michigan Foreclosure Prevention Program. The program is a partnership with legal aid offices throughout Michigan, as well as housing counselors throughout Michigan and the National Consumer Law Center. The program has already begun accepting referrals and providing assistance.
According to Routt, efforts will focus on expanding legal representation to homeowners facing foreclosure, collaborating with housing counselors to resolve foreclosures early in the process, and coordinating statewide policy advocacy.
The Michigan Foreclosure Prevention Program is funded by grants from the Ford Foundation, the Michigan State Bar Foundation, and IFLA – a project of CLR – managed by NACA, and by a contract with the Michigan State Housing and Development Authority.
The grants will provide funding for nine legal aid attorneys specializing in foreclosure prevention across Michigan. Each region in Michigan will have at least one legal aid attorney handling foreclosure
cases. Those areas with larger needs will have more attorneys. The Michigan Foreclosure Prevention Program anticipates being able to provide legal assistance to over 1,000 families facing foreclosure each year.
Routt says that this is a newly funded program. Most legal aid programs in the state are participating, although not all have hired their foreclosure attorney. The programs are not limited by the Legal Services Corporation income guidelines for purposes of this project. While the statewide intake number has not been officially launched, you can obtain information about accessing the program from your local legal aid office. A list of the program partners can be found at the program website, http://miforeclosure.mplp.org. Note that while the substantive information is not yet on the web site, the list of program partners can be accessed either by clicking on the link above, or in the left hand navigation bar.

Glad to hear that there is organization that help homeowner when it come to foreclosure.
