The New York Times reports today that for many Americans the cost and availability of health care insurance is a major factor in whether they marry or in whether and/or when they divorce. The article cites a poll that the Kaiser Family Foundation, a health policy research group, conducted this spring. Researchers stated that 7 percent of adults said someone in their household had married in the past year to get access to insurance. According to the foundation, this "number should not be taken literally." However, the New York Times says that it is "an intriguing indicator that some Americans 'are making major life decisions on the basis of health care concerns.' ”
